R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures

R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures is based out of its lodge in the Revelation Mountains of the Alaska Range, about 160 miles west of Anchorage. Its primary business is providing fully-guided big game hunts in Alaska’s Game Management Units 19-C and 19-D for Dall Sheep, Moose, and Interior Grizzly Bears. Access to this area is by aircraft only, and Rob operates a Cessna 206 to transport clients, guides, supplies, fuel, and all gear and equipment from Anchorage to the lodge and back. Transport from the lodge to most hunting areas is by Super Cub, a smaller plane equipped for operating in small, unimproved landing areas.

R&R guides are some of the most experienced and well-equipped guides in the business. They are very conscientious about having organized and clean spike camps, are very experienced hunters, have excellent trophy care skills, and are good-fun guys to be with during your hunt in Alaska.

Testimonials

Rob and his guides are professional and knowledgeable and made sure my hunt was 100% successful. Thanks to my guide for his efforts and hard work which gave me the opportunity to take a great ram. Base camp was top-notch, and the spike camps were comfortable and well equipped. R&R made sure I had the info I needed to bring the right gear for the hunt, and all the paperwork was in order. My taxidermist said R&R did a beautiful job of skinning and prepping the cape for a life-size mount. Rob and his guides made sure the hunt went well from start to finish, and they never stopped working.

Rob Jones was highly recommended by friends who hunted with R&R in 2011.  Our plan was to hunt for Dall Sheep and, if there was time, we would chase a Moose when we came down from the mountain.  Rob provided a top mountain guide who took me into the Revelation Mountains, where on the sixth day, we took a broomed 10-year-old ram, scarred up and beautiful.  This is Alaska adventure hunting at its best: rugged and awe-inspiring mountains, camping on the glacier, all kinds of weather each day, and many beautiful Dall Sheep to glass and pursue.  This is what we dream about.  I will be hunting with R&R again.

I had the good fortune to hunt with R&R Outfitters and owner Rob Jones in both 2013 and 2014. During the 2013 season, I took a beautiful full curl Dall Sheep. This was an unbelievable hunt. The magnitude of Alaska was overwhelming. Days of walking riverbeds, climbing mountains, and maneuvering ledges paid off with the harvest of my Dall Sheep.

I became a repeat customer in the fall of 2014. Rob placed me in a couple of different areas during this hunt. This hunt was equally successful as the previous year. I collected a handsome Caribou and a 66'' Bull Moose. The common factor of both hunts was the quality of the services provided by R&R Outfitters. More importantly was the expertise of my guides, who are the epitome of outdoorsmen. Their expertise is truly remarkable. I hope to return again to experience all that Alaska can offer. If so, I will definitely do it with R&R Outfitters.

I had the pleasure of hunting with R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures in 2011, and having not hunted in Alaska before, I can say it was a great trip! Rob’s guides did a great job of finding and getting me on a giant moose! My guide made the trip enjoyable and as comfortable as possible. Rob’s flying skills are incredible and actually were a lot of fun! I can’t wait to get back to R&R and do it again! Hopefully next time a big Dall Sheep! Thanks!

Alaska Moose has been the #1 animal on my bucket list for 15 years now. After having my second back surgery this spring at the age of 35, I decided that this was the year to do an Alaska moose hunt. After looking at countless outfits on the internet and talking with many outfitters the past few years, I decided to book with Rob Jones. I like the fact that Rob does all his own flying and harvests very few animals from his hunting area (this was a major deciding factor for me).

We were flown into camp in early September, and from the minute we landed I realized this place was run top-notch. I was flown out the following day and set up on a great bull, which we killed 3 days later. Rob had packers flow in to take care of hauling all the meat out which was music to my ears because that meant I was going to try and kill a Dall Sheep!

After spending a few days in the tents it was a real treat to be flown back to base camp and have a great meal. The lodge is very nice also. Next morning we flew out and set up in a river bottom for sheep. The country these animals live in is absolutely breathtaking. The first morning we woke up and had breakfast, my guide got out of the tent first and started calling my name, "Get your gun!! Grizzly bear!!"

As I stepped out of the tent with one bullet, I spooked a beautiful grizz and shot it 68 yards from the tent. What a bonus to this already great hunt! After taking care of the bear we spent 43 hours in the tent because of some serious fog. On Day 7, my guide and I were moved again for Dall Sheep and set up camp late that evening with anticipation of finding a big ram the following morning. We did close to 11-12 miles that day up and down steep mountains and around 2pm found a beautiful mature 10-year-old ram that was over a full curl and broomed off his left side. One shot 360 yards straight downhill, and I had just taken my third animal in just eight days.

WOW! What a hunt! I had a great time, my guide was great, the outfitter was great, camp was run very well. If I hunt moose again in Alaska it will be with R&R for sure.

R&R guide service was recommended to me by a friend who has hunted with him a lot in the past. When a Dall Sheep trip became available, I jumped at the chance to go. It was short notice, but everything went very smooth. This is a very physical hunt, but if you are in good shape, you will be well rewarded.

The guides did an excellent job with everything. All the meals at the lodge were great as well. I would definitely recommend Rob and his crew to anyone looking for a quality sheep hunt.

This is my fourth Dall Sheep hunt with R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures, and I want to say it is like hunting with my own family.

R&R is well-prepared for the client’s needs by using experienced guides who have excellent knowledge of the areas and game populations, plus using top-of-the-line equipment. Alaska's terrain is physically demanding, but very rewarding.

Back at the base camp, R&R provides a first-rate lodge with a sauna for soothing sore muscles and a great cook for meals. I have never been disappointed in booking my hunts with R&R.

After my very successful sheep hunt, we took a day of rest, and then my guide and I set out for Moose in the low country. Flying in the backcountry with Rob is a unique experience, and Rob's piloting skill in a Super Cub is unsurpassed. His experience and commitment to safety is apparent, and seeing the mountains and wildlife will be a lifetime memory and a big part of my trip.

The rut was just starting and the Moose were on the move. We saw a number of large bulls and took a very old and large moose with massive fronts; he was 62" and scored 221. Not bad for one day of moose hunting. Breaking down a big moose is a lot of work, and Rob's guys did all of the packing which was fantastic.

R&R provided the Alaska trip that I imagined, and I am looking forward to hunting with them again.

I had the pleasure of Moose hunting with Rob Jones and the R&R staff in the fall of 2013. All I can say is WOW! What an experience. Beginning with the very first phone conversation that I had with Rob, I knew I was in for a GREAT hunt. Rob and my guide did not disappoint. Rob was very thorough in our telephone conversations and took extra care to make sure that I had a recommended gear list and that I was aware of the terrain I would be hunting and the physical preparation that was needed to maximize my hunting experience.

I flew out to Rob’s lodge in the afternoon, and that very same evening, Rob had me at my drop camp ready for opening day. Before I arrived in camp, Rob had done all of the necessary scouting and had me in position to put a stalk on a couple of really nice bulls.

Rob has a staff of very professional, highly skilled pilots and registered guides. If you get to spend any time around the lodge, you will have the opportunity to experience some great cooking and breathtaking Alaskan scenery. The camaraderie and fellowship among the other hunters and guides in camp is a lot of great fun as well.

Rob and my guide helped me achieve my Alaskan dream by guiding me to within shooting range of this really nice 63 ½” Bull Moose. I was also fortunate enough to harvest a beautiful Alaskan Interior Grizzly Bear as well.

I had the pleasure of Bear hunting with Rob Jones and the R&R staff in the fall of 2013. After I harvested a really nice 63 ½” Bull Moose, my guide's attention quickly shifted to helping me harvest my bear. In no time, Rob had me moved to a different location that had a greater concentration of Grizzly Bears in the area. Rob’s expert flying skills offer hunters access to areas that do not frequently get hunted by other outfitters. After several days of glassing, we spotted a large boar several miles away and the stalk was on. Because of the particular terrain that we were in, it was necessary for us to get really close to get an effective shot. My guide's expert guiding skills got me within 35 yards of this beautiful Alaskan Interior Grizzly Bear.

My 2014 Dall Sheep hunt with R&R was everything I had hoped for in an Alaskan adventure... the physical challenge of steep mountains, mentally dealing with vast wilderness, and managing internal emotions & nerves while stalking to within 155 yards for a steep downhill shot was an experience overflowing with the thrill, excitement, and satisfaction many sheep hunters dream about.

Deciding to hunt with Rob Jones -- with his experience, remote location and proven track record -- stacked the odds of having a successful hunt in my favor. This planning, plus lots of physical preparedness, paid off and I was rewarded with a magnificent full-curl Ram. I will never forget the feeling of achievement as our plane gained altitude away from the gravel bar with the horns on my lap, cape between my feet, and pack full of meat behind my back. This was a hunt I had worked hard for, enjoyed every second of, and returned from with a trophy I will relish for the rest of my life.

When booking and planning my sheep hunt with R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures, it was my goal that I would consider it “a trip of a lifetime” like you hear so often. In my case, it really was. Being in the hunting industry, I have been fortunate to hunt in 20 states and 3 foreign countries. I’ve hunted with some great (and not-so-great) outfitters. R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures was one of the top operations I have been with. My guide was incredible and my sheep was his 140+ sheep he had guided. In addition, my packer was as hardworking of a guy as I’ve seen. They kept me entertained during the down times (bad weather) of the hunt and kept me motivated to climb the mountains.

The hunt itself was in some of the most beautiful but rugged land I have ever seen. It was a classic sheep hunt and after playing high school football, it was the most physically challenging thing I have done in my life. Not only was the sheep the reward, but the journey was just as rewarding. I began preparing for this late August hunt in January and began my cardio and strength training in March. I was badly out of shape and the hunt gave me the motivation to lose 20 pounds and get my legs in better shape. The gear selection and preparation was part of the fun. I listened to what Rob suggested and followed his gear guide. It proved to be the way to go.

My ultimate trophy goal on this hunt was to just kill a legal ram. On the 6th day, I was fortunate to take a 10-year-old trophy with 14” bases and a 38 1/4” broomed-off horn that scored 162”. While I was back at the cozy lodge regaining my fat with the incredible cooking, my hunting buddy (who referred R&R to me) waited until his 10th day to one-up me with a monster 10-year-old ram with 14 1/4” bases and a 43” horn. The head sheep biologist for the state of Alaska couldn't believe the size of our horns when we checked them in the Anchorage office of the Alaska Fish and Game. If you are going on a Dall Sheep hunt, I recommend getting in the best shape you can, selecting the best gear you can afford, making sure your shooting skills are honed in, and booking a hunt with the best outfitter you can find. If you choose R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures, you will not be disappointed.

This was my first time hunting with Rob Jones and the staff of R&R Hunting & Outdoor Adventures. You have heard the statement “once-in-a-lifetime hunt”: that's exactly the experience R&R provides.

I was immediately flown to my campsite where my guide had been scouting and had everything set up. The Super Cub plane ride through the mountains was breathtaking and worth the trip in itself. Rob has been flying most of his life and is very safety-conscious, which I greatly appreciated because I'm not a fan of flying especially in small planes.

My guide was very professional and an experienced outdoorsman. His first question to me was, “Do you want a good moose or a great moose?” My answer was, “Let’s get the big one!” After several days of rain and not seeing the size moose we were looking for, we decided to move to another area. On the 7th day of my hunt, I shot a 68” moose. I can't explain the excitement and adrenaline I experienced. A packer was flown in to transport the meat and cape. All I had to do was sit back and enjoy the scenery which was unbelievable.

I would definitely recommend this hunt. Make sure you are in reasonably good shape if you want to go after the big one.

Thank you to Rob and his staff for their expertise and friendship. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime hunt!
